Why do teachers punish children?

When a teacher punishes a child parents make a big fuss about it. Media too does not spare the teacher. Is punishing a child a crime?? A teacher's condition in a class room and a school is very pathetic. She has to complete the portion; he has to maintain discipline; she has to get all the work done by the students; she has to maintain all records; she has to set question papers; she has to check the answer papers within a spipulated time; above all she has to produce good results; so on and so forth. If she fails to do so she will be practically fired by the management.

On the whole, it is a tension filled job. Given this mind set, there are more chances for a teacher to lose her temper and punish a child. Please understand, no teacher punishes a child deliberately. All the teachers try their best to maintain discipline or get the work done through advice. When repeated advice fails they resort to corporal punishment.

Have you not heard about film directors shouting and screaming at actors and acresses during film shooting? Don't compnay executives bark at their subordinates? Why do they do so? They have to give results. There is pressure on them. And they have to bark like dogs?

Similarly a teacher too barks. When that fails she bites. The job of a teacher is to shape the personality of a child. She is like a sculptor. Can a sculptor shape a sculpture without using a chisel and a hammer? or without damaging the rock he is working on? If you people expect a teacher to teach a child without resorting to corporal punishment at all (I do not encourage corporal punishment - I recommend when needed), it is like a foolish sculptor who tries to caress, kiss and patt a rock to make a sculpture out of it, which is impossible and which is utter nonsense.
Listen to this story:
There was a temple on top of a hill. There were so many steps leading to the temple. One night, there was a loud and shark cry heard in that area. The goddess in the temple was shocked. The goddess asked, "Who is crying out there?". "I am the first step of the staircase that leads people to your temple.", came the reply. "What is the problem?", asked the goddess. The step replied, "You are made up of stone. I too am made up of stone but still people worship you. No one respects me. Rather people stamp on me. Why are people partial?". The goddess replied, " My dear friend, long back, when the construction of this temple started we both were selected to be statues. But, you started crying when the sculptor started sculpturing on you. Whereas, I remained quiet and bore all the pain. Therefore, today I am a statue whorshipped by all and you a mere step stamped by all".

My dear people, do not make issue out of punishments given by teachers.
Good Luck.
Raj.
